The animal, named Pretty Boy, was shot close to Mana Pools National Park in Zimbabwe. Had the bullet hit him 5cm lower, he would have been killed, experts have revealed. It is thought he was shot three to six weeks before he was seen by vets. Dr Lisa Marabini, from Aware Trust Zimbabwe, told the BBC that the elephant calmly presented himself to animal medics, and showed no aggression.
